Every athlete deserves a shot at revealing the champion inside them. At Special Olympics Mississippi, our mission is to give athletes who have intellectual disabilities the opportunities to achieve their full potential through competition and community.
Our annual fundraising gala honors the accomplishments of more than 4,000 athletes across the state who compete year-around locally, regionally and even on an international scale.
We also recognize the volunteer and donor community that supports them. As a volunteer-driven organization, we rely on hundreds of volunteers statewide who support our program events with their own talents, from coaching to organizing and much more.
Our 2016 theme is “Go For The Gold,” and the event will be held at The South in Jackson. Check our events page for more details.
Meet the Artists
Attendees to the Gala will have the opportunity to meet several of our athlete-artists and bid on their work to benefit Special Olympics Mississippi.
Jeff Brock participates in softball, soccer and basketball with Special Olympics Mississippi. He has also been a resident of The Mustard Seed for 27 years, where he creates artwork like this hand-built serving stand.
Jane Kileen competes in softball and basketball thanks to contributions from our generous supporters around the state. Her “drip style” of painting is very popular in The Mustard Seed’s gift shop, and this angel sculpture featuring her signature style will be featured in the silent auction.
Charlie Winstead competes in softball, basketball and soccer, has served as a volunteer at the Madison Fire Department for 13 years, and loves painting and swimming. This egg plate featuring Charlie’s signature detailed designs will be part of the silent auction at the Gala.
Royce Smith is a competitor in softball and basketball. Royce also loves football, dancing and algebra, which he claims was his favorite subject in school. Royce made this ceramic pie plate, which is microwave, dishwasher and oven safe.
Savannah Wilson’s painting style changes based on her interests at the time she picks up a brush. This athlete in basketball and softball loves and supports our troops through prayer, patriotic ceramics and handmade cards. This large cylinder vase features her camo painting style.
