largest grass-roots fundraising and public awareness vehicle to benefit Special Olympics.

Portfolio of Projects
Get involved in any one of Special Olympics' worldwide initiatives that reach far beyond
the traditional sporting event, touching families, students, education and health professionals,
and athletes in direct and personal ways.

Athlete Leadership
Special Olympics Athlete Leadership Programs (ALPs) teach athletes how to be leaders
in the movement as well as more productive citizens in their communities. Funding ALPs
is an investment in the total development and well-being of Special Olympics athletes,
their families and their communities.

Schools and Families
Around the world, Special Olympics works with schools, students and families through
the Family Support Network and SO Get Into It curriculum. These two outreach programs
help recruit athletes, students and families for Special Olympics and provide targeted
opportunities to reach school age and family audiences.

Healthy Athletes
Special Olympics Healthy Athletes helps Special Olympics athletes improve their overall
health and enhance their sports experience by providing vision, dental and hearing screenings,
nutritional advice and physical therapy demonstrations to help reduce injuries. This unique
marketing platform offers screenings and events at local, state, national and world
Games year-round.

Team Advantage - A Worldwide Employee Volunteer Program
Team Advantage brings hands-on volunteer opportunities to your employees at local
Special Olympics events, providing them opportunities to develop as leaders in their

energize the Special Olympics Movement at the local level while at the same time
promote the collegiality and team building goals of your company worldwide. An example

Why Partner with Special Olympics?

Sponsorship funds help improve the lives of 1 million athletes worldwide and help
support Special Olympics' goal of reaching 1 million more athletes by 2005.

Special Olympics has high recognition and visibility:

  • 97 percent name recognition in the United States, according to Performance
    Research (2001)

  • "Favorite charity," according to a Time magazine survey, Citicorp and
    Procter & Gamble

  • "Best of Class" in making a difference in the lives of the people it serves when
compared to other well-established charities, according to an Equitus
Study conducted by Enterprise IG (1999)

  • A global media favorite with coverage on all U.S. networks, Transworld Sport,
Time Magazine, BBC, New York Times, Eurosport, National Geographic World,
    BBC Radio and CNN International

  • One of the 100 best charities in America, according to Worth magazine (2001)

According to the 1999 Cone/Roper Cause-Related Trends Report, consumers demand
companies support what is important to them:

·  83 percent of Americans have a more positive image of companies supporting a
particular cause they care about.

·  76 percent of consumers are more likely to choose a brand associated with a
good cause, price and quality being equal.

·  65 percent would be likely to switch retailers or products to one associated with
a good cause.

·  87 percent of all employees report having a stronger sense of loyalty to their
employer, for companies with cause programs.

Special Olympics North America commissioned Performance Research to conduct
a brand recognition study (via telephone) in August 2001. Here is what people had to
say about Special Olympics.

·  Special Olympics has 97 percent name recognition in the United States.

·  70 percent of the public say they feel more positive about companies that support
Special Olympics.

·  85 percent of the public believe that corporate partnerships with Special Olympics
"make a difference" in the lives of children and adults with mental retardation.

·  77 of the public would be "extremely" likely to spend a little more to purchase a
product or service if they thought it were helping Special Olympics.

Special Olympics Sponsors and their Involvement

Red Lobster
Red Lobster has consistently increased customer traffic and raised revenues since it began teaming
with Special Olympics in 1985. Nearly 600 Red Lobster restaurants across the United States and
Canada raised US$1.2 million two years in a row through their Cops and Lobsters event. Here law
enforcement officers and celebrities serve as waiters, contributing their tips to Special Olympics
and the Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics.

Cingular Wireless*
Due to the success of a local SBC Wireless promotion in Northern California in 1999, SBC
(now Cingular Wireless) expanded its relationship nationally by becoming an Official Partner of
Special Olympics USA. In just two years, Cingular Wireless has helped raised US$20.4 million for
Special Olympics USA. The company's overall goal is to raise US$40 million by the end of 2003.

*Cingular Wireless and Procter & Gamble are Special Olympics USA partnerships. For more
